I've been watching a comic here on dA called "Graph Paper" by :iconfirefly376: - its an odd little strip about a ditzy angel named Talori who fell out of heaven on two unsuspecting people who would love to find a way to boot her right back up there if they could. (The first page can be found at this [link] .)

firefly376 just started Chapter Two: Death By Groceries. On pages 7-8 [link] a pink and black jumpsuited girl pops out of a freezer case brandishing a pair of M1911 Colt Army pistols stating that she is an assassin here to kill Talori by the name of Joy Merriment (holy 007!). Now its strange enough that a girl would pop out of a freezer case of meat, let alone the way the meat is presented in the first place (unwrapped). But later on, when she's got the poor angel tied up, at one point she holds out one of her guns (Page 14) - and we get the 'L'.

An 'L' shaped gun... I know, I know, I'm being picky - it's a humor comic after all. But I saw that handle, and I cringed.

Here we have the law of physics folks – there is a reason why a gun’s handle, specifically a pistol’s, is best angled slightly – 1 - it fits the hand better… the human hand is not square, it’s angled from the forefinger down to the pinky. And 2 – if a gun like an M1911 had a straight ‘L’ handle, the first time you shot it, you’d break your wrist from the torque of the kickback! Ouch!

Sooo… I decided that I’d give it a whirl. I was in need of getting back into drawing again anyway, so I decided to do this little project – Here we have Joy Merriment in all her glory. This picture comes in many sizes, including a screen sized (1118 x 768 – a touch bigger than 1024, but it looks good) version if you click on the Download button.

‘All in fun ma’am!

Keep up the good work! ;)

Enjoy!

LOL XD
You were right; I did get a kick out of this! :D
I absolutely love this picture! X3 Goodness... when I read the title of the note, I thought it was too good to be true. But it is!

Man, you are the one kind of reader that I was so scared of having... the kind that knows about guns. Since this was my first time ever drawing guns, I was afraid that I was going to have somebody who knew how to draw guns as expertly as you can reading the comic... because I knew I couldn't draw guns at all. ^^;

But I thank you very much for teaching me some stuff about drawing them. :3 I really appreciate it, and I'll definitely try to draw them better for the upcoming pages (and maybe I'll go back and fix the other pages).

And thank you again for this fanart! =^__^= I love it to death! :D I've actually got it set as my wallpaper right now. XD It looks so awesome and the guns are so well-drawn, lol.

You're quite welcome - Mind you, I don't know much about guns as in 'a gun expert' and such - I've never owned, nor do I plan on owning one (unless it were a phaser... heh heh heh). All I did was research the gun. Pop over to Wiki and punch up the M1911 and you'll find all the referece you'll ever want (or need ;) ).

Glad you liked her!

Enjoy!

Nice, dynamic pose!

First of all, the pose is nice, but there are some issues that really bother me.

The way her back is arched and the thickness of her tummy make her look pregnant. I'm not a figure drawing person, but I think you need to slim that area down a bit.

And considering that you're not a "gun guy," you've done a really good depicting her weapons, but there are some technical and mechanical errors.

If she were a true assassin, she wouldn't be closing one eye. In a combat situation you need both eyes open for better depth perception and just having greater visual range. If you're on a range where conditions are controlled, you can close one eye because you're not looking for threats, etc.

The next is that while your 1911's are pretty good, there are some glaring errors. First (and least important) is the fact that the trigger guard (the bit that your trigger finger goes in) is too thin. It should really be a bit more than 1/4" wide.

And most importantly, the front of your pistols don't resemble the M1911 at all. Here's a good pic that I found after going through a google image search

I don't know if you want to work on that image any more than you already have, but yea... for future reference, at least...
:iconarknorth:
True on many aspects - though here's a few noteworthy back -

Yes, I know I botched the gun's front end - I did not have a good image to see the front right (I thought at first the pin under the muzzle was a screw, when it should be just the end of the guide-rod).

The second is the fact that the character is a comic-type, and closing an eye is actually for humerous affect.

As for the belly, maybe so... but even Twiggy's gonna show her belly when rearing back like that! ;)

But what the hey, I agree with all that you say (though the pic in the background that I used as reference is from Wiki - before I artsified it - note the thin trigger guard - there are variences in this model).

Thanks for the comment!
